- Coordinate, But Don’t Match: Steer clear of the matchy-matchy trap. Go for a coordinated vibe with colors that complement each other, creating a coordinated style without looking like you raided the same closet.
- Pick Outfits with Soft and Neutral Tones: Think soft, dreamy vibes. Pastels, creams, and light blues are your best friends. These colors not only make your engagement photos timeless but will also draw attention to your love. Think about the location you are taking your photos at and select colors that compliment that area. For example, if you are taking engagement photos in the desert, wearing black will bring in some needed contrast. Taking photos in a field in the summer, creams, white, and soft neutrals will be your friend.Pro tip : If you are going to be in a location with a lot of green like trees or grass, avoid wearing green or anything in the green color palette like turquoise.
- Include Textures and Layers: Break up a neutral color palette by adding visual interest with textures like chunky knits, ribbed fabrics, muslin, linen, gauze or lace.
- Avoid Busy Patterns + Logos: Keep it simple. Skip the bold prints and busy patterns that might steal the spotlight. A pretty floral print or timeless simple print are the exception to this rule.
- Clean your engagement ring: Whether you are rocking a gorgeous diamond ring or unique engagement rings, make sure to clean your engagement ring before the session because it will be photographed a lot.
Two Outfits or One Outfit?
Is it necessary to have two outfits for your engagement photos? While it’s not a must, it can add a fun variety to your photos. Consider a formal outfit for the first part of the shoot, and then switch into something more relaxed, like a casual dress, for a more casual vibe.
Pro tip: Save your favorite outfit for the second half of your engagement session when you are warmed up and more comfortable in front of the camera.
Should we wear white for our engagement photos?
