How to Plan a Proposal at the Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach

Proposal

If you’re planning a Ritz-Carlton Naples proposal, you’re already thinking about this the right way. It’s one of the most stunning proposal locations in all of Southwest Florida,  and I’ve photographed multiple proposals here. Here’s everything you need to know to pull it off perfectly.

Why the Ritz-Carlton Naples Is Such a Perfect Proposal Spot

There are a lot of gorgeous beaches in Naples. But the Ritz-Carlton Naples is on Vanderbilt Beach …..one of the most pristine stretches of Gulf Coast coastline with the added bonus of a stunning property behind it. You get the soft white sand and the gorgeous resort backdrop and the option to seamlessly transition into cocktails or dinner after she says yes.

It’s not just beautiful. It’s logistically smart. The property gives you options: beach, courtyard, great dining. This is the perfect spot for the girl who like luxury and style.

The result: Photos that look like something out of a magazine, a partner who just thinks you are heading to the Ritz, and a moment you’ll both remember for the rest of your lives.

The Best Spots on the Property to Propose

The Beach at Sunset

This is the classic spot and for good reason. The beach directly in front of the Ritz is stunning at golden hour. The soft Gulf light, the water, the sand. If you want the most emotional, most photogenic proposal possible, this is it.

Best time: Plan your proposal 20-30 minutes before sunset so the light is warm and golden. The sun sets over the Gulf, which means you get that iconic orange-pink sky directly in your photos.

Tip: Don’t stress about people on the beach. When you drop to one knee, she won’t notice anyone else in the world and neither will you.

The Courtyard

If you want something more intimate and slightly more private than the open beach, the courtyard at the Ritz is beautiful. Lush landscaping, elegant architecture, and a more tucked-away feel. This is perfect if your partner would feel more comfortable with less open space around them — or if you want a slightly more formal, editorial look to the photos.

Several of the proposals I’ve photographed here have been in the courtyard, and the photos are stunning — the greenery and the architecture create this incredible layered backdrop.

A Ritz Carlton Resturant

Want to build a full evening around it? The Ritz has four incredible dining options depending on your vibe — and any of them make the perfect cover story.

Nolita is the Italian option — romantic, elegant, exactly the kind of dinner that feels special without tipping her off that something bigger is coming.

The Grill is the steakhouse — classic, upscale, great for the couple who does date night right. Order the good bottle of wine, let her think it’s just a really nice evening, and then walk her down to the beach after.

DUSK is the oceanfront bar — perfect if you want a more intimate, cocktails-at-sunset moment before you pop the question right there on the terrace.

Gumbo Limbo is the casual beachside option — laid-back, fun, less “occasion-feeling” which actually works in your favor if she’s the type who’d get suspicious at a fancy dinner reservation out of nowhere.

Any of them work. The restaurant is just the setup. The beach is where the moment happens.

How Timing Actually Works (And Why It Matters More Than You Think)

The number one mistake guys make is not thinking through the flow of the evening. Here’s what I recommend:

Plan the cover story first. She needs a reason to be dressed nicely and at the Ritz at golden hour without knowing why. Common ones that work: dinner reservation, “just walking the beach,” celebrating something, visiting friends nearby.

Build in a buffer. Give yourself 30 minutes more than you think you need. Things always take longer: parking, getting ready, walking from the car. You don’t want to be rushing when you’re about to propose.

Know your light window. In Southwest Florida, golden hour light is magic, but it moves fast. Check the exact sunset time for your date here and plan to be in position 30 minutes before the sun actually drops.

Have a backup plan for weather. Florida weather is unpredictable, especially in summer. If there’s a storm rolling in, the courtyard becomes your best friend because of the stunning covered archways throughout the property.

How a Proposal Photographer Fits Into All of This

Here’s the thing most guys don’t think about until after: the proposal lasts about 90 seconds. Your phone camera isn’t capturing that. A stranger nearby definitely isn’t getting it right. And you’re not going to remember to hand someone your phone in the 10 seconds between walking up and getting on one knee.

A proposal photographer (hi, that’s me) handles all of this invisibly. I arrive early, find my spot, and blend in. By the time you’re on one knee, I’m just another person on the beach. She has no idea I’m there.

What you get:

  • The full reaction — the tears, the shock, the laugh, the yes
  • Every moment as it actually happened, not reconstructed
  • A mini engagement session right after, while you’re both still riding that high

The most common thing I hear afterward: “I didn’t even realize she was there.” That’s exactly the point.

What to Expect From a Ritz-Carlton Naples Proposal Session

Here’s how it typically goes when you hire me:

  1. We talk through everything first. Location, timing, cover story, what she’s wearing, how you want to do it. You don’t have to have it all figured out, and in fact, most guys don’t when they first reach out. We figure it out together.
  2. Day-of, we stay in touch. You share your location as you get close, we’re texting in real time, and I adjust on my end as the timing shifts (because it always does a little). You just focus on her.
  3. The proposal happens. I capture everything …. the walk up, the moment you reach for the ring, her reaction, the hug, the happy tears, all of it.
  4. We transition into a mini session. After she’s processed what just happened, we do 30 minutes of photos together — walking the beach or the Ritz property, whatever feels right. These become some of the most beautiful engagement photos you’ll ever have.

Ritz-Carlton Naples Proposal: Frequently Asked Questions

Will she figure out there’s a photographer?

Almost never. I blend in completely — no obvious camera setup, no assistant with a reflector, nothing that looks like a production. By the time you’re proposing, she’s not thinking about anyone else on that beach.

What if the timing changes last minute?

It almost always does, and I plan for it. We stay connected in real time and I adjust as needed. You don’t have to worry about me. Just focus on her and this huge moment.

What if the weather is bad?

Florida summer storms are real. If the weather shifts, we move to the courtyard or covered areas of the property and still get beautiful photos. The Ritz is gorgeous in all conditions. Or if your plans are flexible, we can postpone to another day. Don’t stress. This is your moment, and I want it to be perfect.

Can we do engagement photos after the proposal?

Yes — and I actually recommend it. The mini session immediately after is when the emotions are still high and the joy is so real. Some of my favorite engagement photos come from proposal sessions, not standalone shoots.

How far in advance should I book?

As soon as you have a date in mind. Proposal sessions during peak season (November through April) book quickly. The sooner you reach out, the better.

Do you offer proposal set-ups like rose petals, candles, etc?

Yes, I am happy to help make the scene perfect for your arrival. I offer a few different options that you can add on to your proposal photography, and I am happy to help create something you are both obsessed with.
